DIY Salvaged Wood Advent Candleholder

IMG_6528.JPG

Since many of you have asked on Instagram, I thought I’d share my advent candleholder I made last year using a piece of salvaged driftwood from Center Hill Lake. You could use any log sawn in half lengthwise, or really any piece of wood with a flat bottom. The more rustic, the better!

Supplies:

  • Electric saw

  • Power drill

  • Spade drill bits (you can get a cheap set of spade drill bits from Harbor Freight)

How to:

  1. Cut your piece of wood with the electric saw to your desired length.

  2. Choose the drill bit that looks slightly smaller than the base of your taper candle.

  3. Drill 5 holes evenly spaced across about 1 inch deep so the taper candles fit securely inside.

  4. Um, that’s it. Just be aware you might become obsessed and want to make holes in everything after making this!

I love using 4 purple candles for each week of advent and a different colored candle for Christmas Day. I’ve looked forward every morning to lighting the candles for a few minutes as I do a reading from Tsh Oxenreider’s new book, Shadow and Light, which has been a perfect companion. As advent comes to a close, I’m going to miss the simple beauty of these mornings and the daily reminder that the light is always breaking through. Always and always.
