North Carolina Mountain Interlude (Dry Falls & Brevard)

Ahhh, nothing like a quick trip to the mountains to fill your soul right up. I needed this so badly. I’ve found that a little goes a long way in the mountains - just 2.5 days, and I came back completely refreshed. Our dear friends were staying at a friend’s house outside of the cute town of Brevard and invited us to come with them.

We stopped by our favorite Mud Dabbers Pottery, except we usually go to their location in Balsam/Waynesville. We have so many beautiful pieces in our home from Mud Dabbers, so we were excited to finally visit their other location in Brevard. What a wonderland! There were so many unique pieces by so many different local potters. We left with an ornament, 3 mugs, a heart-shaped bowl for one of our daughters, and a stud earring storage bowl for our other daughter. Could have bought everything in the shop! 🤭

A lovely creek ran behind the shop next to the parking lot, so of course we had to take a moment for this. Autumn met us there and was swooning over the pottery just as much as we were.

After this, Steven and I left on our mountain adventure. I was absolutely giddy - going on fun little drives to new towns is one of my favorite things to do with him. Nothing fancy - just talking while we drive, noticing beauty, getting out and looking for something fun to do. Our plan was to find a waterfall, which Transylvania County, NC is known for - it’s called “The Land of Waterfalls” with over 250 waterfalls! Seriously. We decided to explore Dry Falls, because of the great reviews, and it wasn’t a long hike. This would give us most of the day to keep exploring other places.

Well, it was a WINNER. Dry Falls had an easily-accessed parking lot just off the country road, a paved walkway to the waterfall, and it was anything but dry. Also, the walkway goes behind the falls!

The first day was rainy but perfect for being in a mossy mountain wonderland with trails through the woods and a fireplace on the porch. Tea, books, repeat. Autumn and I learned how to play the game Cascadia (LOVED!).

We ended the trip with a walk before dinner, stumbling upon the most magical fairy glade ever - like, how is this real? And then the sky that night was just so clear and full of stars.

Yes, time in the mountains is good for the soul.
